omg ruby, i discovered last night that the jaffas in my fridge were MOLDY. tbf they were there for many moons and i have a habit of not eating candy so i forgot about them. still, sad.

i had a bag of jaffas for ages and ages, but i kept it in my dresser drawer, and they did not mold. << pro tip

ok so i've hidden two boxes of jaffas from jordan, before he can eat them all. but i'm terribly lazy about visiting the post office. so expect them sometime in the next... 18 months

yesterday i was eating a popular confectionary item i'd somehow never eaten before thinking, yum these things are so ruby, i will get her some for that phantom parcel.

you can eat the buzz bars - i was never a huge fan of them, i don't like marshmallow all that much (unless it is in MALLOWPUFFS).

all the jaffas are gone now, except the two i have hidden! 23 boxes eaten in 12 days. i think we made them last a long time, considering!!

i'm ashamed to report there was also a (replaceable) surprise for lxy that is also rip, but this time f. is equally to blame. we were just really hungry.

i found a stash at a nearby store, i nearly fainted with joy.

they also had raro! i'd clean forgotten about raro.

!! also they had toffee milk bars, which my younger sister and i were completely obsessed with when we were little, we spent every cent we had on them. our mother didn't like us eating sugar because her family has a lot of diabetes but our aunt in london sent us these embroidered cheesecloth tops with puffed sleeves so we'd wear them down to the shop and buy toffee milk bars and smuggle them into the house in our sleeves and then we'd eat them in bed later that night. we had an obsession with midnight feasts that we got from reading books about girls at english boarding schools, in the books someone would always get sick from overeating but we had cast iron stomachs.

we used to smuggle packets of raro to school - we'd tear off a corner and lick our fingers and dip it in and it eat straight!!

also: I LOVE TOFFEE MILKS!!!!

i had a suspicion you might, based upon empirical observations i had previously made about you and jotted down in a notebook.

i was amazed to see them, i thought they were an olden days thing.

do you like pixie caramels? they had those as well.

omg YES pixie caramels are even better than toffee milks! i haven't had one in years and years.

raro is like kool-ade which they used to sell in big packets with sugar added. i once got in trouble for having a bag on grape kool-ade in my coat pocket, for snacking on in just the way ruby described.

i think they only sell kool-ade without the sugar now. poor children of today.

I am shivering.

it is snowing again.
the electricity has gone off, I don't know how long it will stay off for.
my parents are asleep and don't know. i hope it's back on before they waken. my sister and I are sitting in front of the fire and she is half-asleep but pretending to be awake, resulting in gibberish. our rooms are too cold to go and sleep in. but this very minute is delightful, such stillness, the fire, the snow on the mountains that you can see in the bright darkness, and also I can hear a train. there is a baby lamb in the next door paddock, I hope it's keeping warm with its mother, it was gambolling around this morning with a thrilled look on its face so the snow last night can't have bothered it much, the dear foolish little thing.

every single status update on facebook from my nz friends has been about snow - for several days!
