i can't watch your youtube t. si, my internet is slow
estela it is two days. the first day is state-specific essays, 10 25-minute essay questions followed by one 90-minute "multistate performance test." the second day is 200 multistate multiple choice questions, which are difficult but i am confident i will do ok on that part (it only encompasses i think 6 subjects). unfortunately you get one score for all of it and if you fail you have to take it ALL again and it's only offered in february and july.
now i am just scared because i didn't want to pay to take the course (it's $3000) so i just bought the books on ebay and what if i didn't do a good enough job teaching myself? but i have done a lot of practice multiple choices, now i am doing essays until i die. the course might just be overkill too, to make sure all the slow people learn enough

harbl, it is obvious from your postings that you have an agile and capable mind and I know it is ridiculous to tell someone to relax b/c they are going to do great and all that. But I hope you can and that all your well-done prep just bubbles up and out when you are in that testing environment. Have you thought about getting someone to record a podcast of all the things you aren't feeling as well-versed in and using it for sleep-learning? Make sure it's someone with a soothing sonorous voice who wouldn't dream of playing a practical joke on you.
― jaq, Friday, 17 July 2009 17:38 (fifteen years ago) link
thx jaq. i'm not sure if that would help me though! i would probably just sleep through it. doing the essays really is helping because i can't absorb anything without writing it. and my hand is getting in better shape so i think it'll survive 6 hours of writing. i just know i have been a little too lazy with studying (i am not a good studier, never have been) and the only way i can be serious for a couple hours is to go, oh, i could really fail this time and if i did that would be very bad. i'm doing things last minute that other people did a month ago but that's pretty much how i've always studied so i'm hoping it works out. all i need to do is pass, not get a high score, i keep reminding myself that too.
― spite n ease (harbl), Friday, 17 July 2009 18:21 (fifteen years ago) link
do you have a test-taking plan, like step 1) answer all absolutely known questions step 2) answer all pretty-sure-about questions step 3) puzzle out possibilities on remaining questions for awhile step 4) random assignment of a b c d etc to all remaining unanswered? Do wrong answers count against you vs. things simply left blank?
There is no way I could manually write for 6 hours! My hand would be a knotted stump of twisted agony. You are my hero for being able to do that.
― jaq, Friday, 17 July 2009 18:50 (fifteen years ago) link
no i think the questions are individually timed so you have to do them in order. i would do that otherwise! but on the other hand it's easier to work on something you absolutely have to do. as far as the multiple choice i think people end up with extra time at the end, which is good because i can go back to stuff. but wrong answers don't count against you. oddly i love those kinds of tests though, i'm good at deciding which questions not to answer! and the essays are graded 0-6. that's not so bad. you do have the option of typing the exam but i didn't want to install windows on my mac to use their software that locks down your computer so you can't cheat. and i didn't want to pay for the software. but it's really about 3 hours of writing because you get a break for lunch.

― spite n ease (harbl), Sunday, 19 July 2009 21:29 (fifteen years ago) link
that was for the first time in two months :o
guilty bc i should already be at the gym.
i am working on learning to run up/down the hill. it is hard. i read something that said it's easier to run up a hill than walk up, though.
― te,he (tehresa), Sunday, 19 July 2009 21:35 (fifteen years ago) link
it is very hard, but gets easier surprisingly fast. i'm going to keep doing it. there were no real hills in ohio so i haven't had any in a long time
― spite n ease (harbl), Sunday, 19 July 2009 21:37 (fifteen years ago) link
i'm not sure i ever ran up a hill in my life. and i'm not sure i ever will.

i just really suck at running period, so this is my big summer challenge.i need different shoes.
― te,he (tehresa), Sunday, 19 July 2009 21:48 (fifteen years ago) link
i have been riding my bike to work, and sometimes home again (on the days when i don't give in and agree to let ytth pick me up), but i get so breathless and my legs hurt and i feel so huge and fat and lazy and old!! i'm heaving round about 30 extra pounds right now, and that just makes all activity that much more exhausting.
also: i am basically incapable of running - like, it feels unnatural to me
― smoove operator, Sunday, 19 July 2009 21:51 (fifteen years ago) link
xp i'm as likely to make a deal with god as i am to run up a hill
― lxy, Sunday, 19 July 2009 21:58 (fifteen years ago) link
i am pretty bad at running but i used to be good at it and i just keep getting in cycles where i get in ok shape then i get busy and stop. running feels less unnatural after you suffer through it for a few weeks. then it feels normal.

So I am curious as to what "sales" are in this law test kind of sense? Like, sales contracts and things? or something else?
It seems totally wrong to make you wait so long for results.
Also, failed test = warmup for the real thing, no shame in that!
― jaq, Friday, 24 July 2009 21:12 (fifteen years ago) link
you're totally not gonna fail, harbl
